Thursday, April 11 (Daniel)

Today was a very busy day, and we did a bunch of fun stuff. We started off the day by visiting the James Joyce statue, who is a very famous writer and an alumni of Belvedere College. Next we made our way to the Famine Sculptures, and started to learn more about the struggles of the famine. Up the street from there was the EPIC Museum, where me and my peers learned about immigrant experiences, ranging from triumphs to hardships. We also visited the Jeanie Johnson ship, where we saw an amazing replica of the passenger ship that brought many immigrants to the Americas. The ship had an amazing story to tell, boasting a perfect 0 deaths aboard when traveling. We then had lunch at the Boxty House, where we enjoyed some of the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. Then we traveled to Trinity College where we saw the Book of Kells and learned about the history of the book, as well as the restoration of the Old Library! After some more shopping around the city, we enjoyed another great dinner at the ThunderRoad Cafe. We finished off our busy day at the Gate Theater, where we watched The Pull of The Stars, which was an amazing experience. Overall this was a very good day, and one I won’t forget.

After the hustle of yesterday today was definitely more relaxing. From what I know, many of us slept for a while. Today for me I went to my exchange students grandparents house. While walking we saw amazing scenery. With amazing mountains in the background. As we go I’m sure we will see more scenery like this everywhere.

Saturday/Sunday: Weekend with host families (Kip)

Saturday was a good day as we arrived around 8 am. When I first got here I got some rest then we went to downtown to go out to eat. We ate a spice bag which is just chicken fingers and fries in a bag with a bunch of spices. Then we went to a rugby game which was awesome as the atmosphere was amazing the whole time. Leinster ended up winning which is the time everyone roots for in Dublin. It was a great first day to the trip and excited to be here for two weeks!

Tuesday, April 9 (Sam)

  We had a lot of fun today inside the school, where we were able to experience a science class from one of the Belvedere science teachers, learn more about Irish culture with a movie, and some of us prepared for our upcoming debate with Belvedere students. We had some fun experiments with the science class, learned a lot about niche scientific topics, and got to show off our knowledge in the world of science! The debate group worked hard to prepare and hopefully score the BC High team a win this year, and the movie we watched, called Sing Street, was a great insight into Irish culture from a previous era!
