Today was a great day we departed the sunny streets of Dublin for a rainy and windy Northern Ireland.Todays theme was Tragedy and we talked of many tragic stories. One of them being the titanic, the titanic was built in Belfast and they have a great museum to commemorate those who helped build it. Today marks the 112th anniversary of when the titanic sank taking thousands of lives with it. One of the other major things we talked about was the separation of Catholics and protestants and how it causes the separation of the north and the Republic of Ireland. Some think that Ireland should be united as one hole and you will hear the saying 26+6=1 this stands for the 26 county’s of the republic and the 6 county’s in the north being united together to form one nation. After crossing the border one of the biggest differences is the change from kilometers to miles. It made me feel like I was back on the roads in the US but we were still on the wrong side of the road. While in the north we visited the peace wall which separates the different beliefs in the city this wall have been visited by many US presidents and many others. We then took the bus to the city hall where we had lunch and explored, after that we took the bus all the way to the giant causeway. On the way some of us were counting sheep both out the window and in our sleep. We ended up being very lucky and had wonderful weather, but we are in Ireland so there still was some rain at some point. But we still were able to have an amazing time. I myself have never been this far north in the county and I enjoyed every second of it. The views of the giants causeway were amazing. We ended the day at the causeway hotel for dinner and hit the road for a long trip back. It was an amazing day.
